A rainstick is a musical instrument that emits a sound reminiscent of falling rain. Traditionally, it is made from a long hollow tube, often made from cactus or bamboo, which is filled with small stones, seeds, or beans. The tube is sealed at both ends and often decorated with various patterns or paintings.

To create the sound of rain, it is held vertically and tilted back and forth, causing the contents inside the tube to weave through a series of small, carefully placed pegs or spikes. As the contents move through these tiny obstacles, they create a gentle, soothing sound that resembles falling raindrops.

It is believed that rainsticks originate from Chile and were used in traditional ceremonies and rituals. Nowadays, they are popular worldwide and are used in meditative and relaxation music, as well as in music therapy.
