Handpans are beautiful musical instruments known worldwide for their ethereal sound. They are made from a steel body which has tones finely tuned through precision hammering, arranged in a circular pattern. Handpans are played by gently striking with the fingers - creating a beautiful, elongated, resonant, meditative tone.

The instrument was invented in the early 2000s by the Swiss brand PANART under the name Hangdrum. The popularity of the Hangdrum led to its development by other manufacturers around the world. Today, the commonly used name is Handpan (or colloquially pan). So the term "Hang" specifically refers to the original instrument from Switzerland.

Handpans (Hang Drums - Pans) are commonly used in meditation, music therapy and as a relaxation tool, as they have soothing tonal properties. They are also great for solo play or accompanying other instruments and are often favored by street performers and ambient musicians. Each handpan is usually tuned to a specific scale and players often explore improvisational playing styles.

Tongue Drums also known as Tank Drums or tongue drums are steel musical instruments similar to handpans, but with distinct differences in design, size and sound production. They are named after the tongue-shaped cutouts on the top of the instrument that create various tones when struck.
