You can play the NCAS jaw harp slowly or quickly - dynamically. Its sound resembles electronic music or analogue synthesizers. You can improvise thrillingly, play poignant melodies and relaxing sounds.
All this is made possible by this small Vietnamese jaw harp.
It is our most popular pocket instrument.
By the way: ncas (pronounced "ncha"), as the H'mong people call their jaw harp, is traditionally made of brass in northern Vietnam. Among the H'mong, both men and women play the small instrument, which is used for celebrations, relaxation and courting. With ncas melodies, entire stories can be told and emotions especially well set to music. Lovers make first contact using dan moi, reveal their feelings, introduce themselves and their families, "talk" about their desires and tease each other in long musical dialogues. It's fascinating what a large sound spectrum such a small instrument has!
