Dunun - Dundun is a type of drum that originates from West Africa, specifically from the Yoruba people of Nigeria. It is a cylindrical drum with double leather membranes on both ends, stretched over a wooden body. The drum is played with sticks and produces a deep bass resonant sound.

In traditional African music, the dundun is often played in ensembles with other percussion instruments such as djembe, tama (talking drum), and chekere. The dundun is also an important part of religious ceremonies and festivals of the Yoruba people.

There are several different sizes of dundun, each with its own characteristic tone and role in the ensemble. The largest dundun is called dundunba or "mother drum" and serves as the foundation of the rhythm. The medium-sized drum is called sangban and plays a more melodic role. The smallest drum is kenkeni and provides high sound accents.

The dundun drum set allows the drummer to play many different rhythms and includes:

- kenkeni drum, which plays at the highest pitches and generally serves as a metronome in simple rhythms.

- sangban drum, which plays at medium pitch and is usually the solo drum.

- dununba drum, which plays at the lowest pitch and responds to the soloist on the djembe.

Each dunun drum from our offer comes from the traditional workshop of a great Malian or Ghanaian craftsman.
